Amid the growing turmoil in Bangladesh's law and order situation, it's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on Monday, has stayed back as the military plane onboard seven military personnel left Hindon airbase without her, ANI reported citing sources.

The Bangladesh Air Force C-130J transport aircraft is flying towards its base in Bangladesh and left India at 9 am.

It continues to remain unclear if Sheikh Hasina will continue to stay in Delhi or move to another location later with possibilities being flying to UK, Belarus or Moscow.


Meanwhile, the security at the Hindon airbase has all beefed up, further hinting at the chances of longer stay here.


Bangladesh is experiencing a turbulent political situation following the resignation of the three-time PM amidst escalating protests. Initially driven by students demanding an end to the quota system for government jobs, the protests have evolved into broader anti-government protests, claiming more than 300 lives.

The students' body has proposed an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, in a bid to tackle the Asian nation's ongoing challenges.

What happened on Monday

Sheikh Hasina, 76, arrived at the Hindon Indian Air Force base near New Delhi after India facilitated her safe passage amid mounting protests in Bangladesh.

In Dhaka, army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced on state television that the military would form a caretaker government following meetings with political parties.

Upon her arrival in India, Hasina was greeted by national security adviser Ajit Doval. They discussed the situation in Bangladesh, where jubilant crowds celebrated her departure, though the streets remain volatile due to the presence of Islamists and Jamaat-e-Islami members.

Indian security forces closely monitored her journey, deploying fighter jets to escort her plane into Indian airspace. Meanwhile, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the evolving situation as the Cabinet Committee on Security convened to assess the developments.

India's move?

EAM Jaishankar on Tuesday called an all-party meeting and briefed all leaders about the Bangladesh crisis. He also spoke about how Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina had moved to India and how New Delhi would take care of the Bangladeshi leader, sources from the all-party meeting told ANI.

Jaishankar said that Sheikh Hasina is in India and the Indian government wants to give her time to let the Indian government know what her future course of action would be.

India is also in touch with the Bangladeshi army, the EAM further said.
