Recent incidents in Dhaka include property takeovers, vandalism of medical facilities and attacks on private studios, reminiscent of the 2001-06 BNP regime, sources from Bangladesh alleged. Extortion and vandalism were rampant during the previous BNP rule, alleged Bangladesh watchers.
Amid supply chains challenges, the Bangladesh economy is passing through a tough phase and the Rahman government surprisingly is not yet seeking stronger economic ties with India that can help tide over the situation, according to Bangladesh watchers. There are unconfirmed reports that Rahman might visit India next month.

The Bangladesh home minister has assured action through paramilitary force but ruled out joint military-police action. The Bangladesh Army chief recently held a meeting of top commanders and lauded professionalism of the force and asked the army to remain prepared for any critical juncture in the country. The Army, however, reposed faith in the government.
