Members of the LGBTQ+ community in Thailand's capital, Bangkok exploded onto the streets to celebrate Bangkok's first pride parade in 16 years. But while the feeling of exhilaration was high among the crowd, many warned that equality was still a far-off dream.

The Bangkok pride parade named "Naruemit Pride 2022", Naruemit a word in Thai, meaning 'creation' was organised by a group of non-governmental organisations with the newly ratified governor Chadchart Sittiput extending his support for the event.

People were seen officiating the first official pride parade with rainbow flags as well as the flag for transgender people, (blue, pink, and white), and this was accompanied by sloganeering with key areas of importance being the legalisation of same-sex marriages and sex worker rights.

Legal rights
Thailand has a highly visible LGBTQ community and has culturally been a part of its history for decades, but legal rights have not been extended to various members of the community. The Thai parliament however is set to soon vote on a bill introducing same-sex unions with almost the same legal rights as married couples.
