BEIJING: Ten passengers on board a Bangkok- bound Chinese airliner were injured today while exiting from the plane when it made an emergency landing at an airport in south China's Hainan Province.

China Southern Airlines flight CZ3081, flying from Guangzhou City in Guangdong Province to Thailand's capital Bangkok, landed at Sanya Phoenix International Airport in Sanya City after instruments on the plane indicated an engine fire, airport authorities said.

Two passengers twisted their ankles and eight got skin abrasions as they disembarked down an evacuation slide, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The plane took off from Guangzhou with 132 passengers and seven crew members.
