'Attempted reckless U-turn...': Florida Guv DeSantis blasts migrant truck driver over deadly crash

US: Gov. Ron DeSantis was in Tampa on Tuesday, Aug. 26, joined by Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue, to address state transportation policies and fiscal priorities. The briefing took place at the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority’s SkyCenter One. DeSantis touched on three major issues: FDOT’s order to remove rainbow crosswalks, a deadly Florida Turnpike crash earlier this month, and the ongoing debate over property taxes. On crosswalks, the governor stood by FDOT’s directive requiring cities to eliminate decorative pavement art. He said Florida roads must remain “uniform” and free from “political messaging.” Perdue has also defended the policy, describing it as part of “proactive efforts” to ensure safety and neutrality.
