An uninhabited village in Spain is on sale for 227,000 euros or Rs 2,16,87,831, as per media reports.

Salto de Castro is an abandoned village located on the border with Portugal in the province of Zamora and is a three-hour drive from Madrid, Spain

The village comprises 44 homes, a hotel, a church, a school and a municipal swimming pool.


According to media reports, the owner had purchased the village in order to transform it into a popular tourist destination. However, the eurozone crisis made it difficult for him to continue with the plan.

Ronnie Rodriguez, who works for Royal Invest, the company representing the owner, told BBC,

The property has been listed on a Spanish property retail website called Idealista. The website mentions the owner as saying, The inefficiency to take care of the village has been cited as the major reason by the owner for selling it.

"The investment required in order to make the village 100% workable and to become profitable would not exceed 2 million euros," news agencies reported the property website as saying.

It has allegedly received more than 50,000 views and has attracted interest from over 300 clients from different countries including Britain, France, Belgium and Russia.

The village has been abandoned since the 1980s.
