Her husband, Adiansa, 30, discovered her slippers and pants about 500 meters from their home in Siteba village. He then spotted a large snake with an unusually swollen belly about 10 meters from the path. Upon cutting open the snake, villagers found Siriati's body inside, according to the AFP news reports.
"Shortly after that, he spotted a snake, about 10 meters from the path. The snake was still alive," said local police chief Idul.
The village secretary, Iyang, mentioned that Adiansa became suspicious after noticing the python’s "very large" belly and called villagers to help cut open its stomach. Such deadly encounters with pythons are extremely rare but have occurred several times in the region over the past few years.
Last month, another woman was found dead inside the belly of a reticulated python in a different district of South Sulawesi. The province also witnessed a similar incident last year when an eight-meter python was killed after strangling and eating a farmer.
In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found inside a seven-meter python in Muna town, Southeast Sulawesi. The year before, a farmer disappeared in West Sulawesi only to be found swallowed by a four-meter python at a palm oil plantation.
