BEIJING: Nearly 4,000 people have been evacuated due to heavy rains that lashed parts of east China's Zhejiang Province.

Heavy rain began to hit Lin'an City yesterday afternoon. Several township were flooded, but no casualties have been reported.

The maximum rainfall in the city's Changhua Township reached 115.5 mm.

More than 3,830 people in the township were evacuated while more than 70 houses, 82 km of roads and 30 vehicles were damaged, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The rain is expected to last for the next three days, according to the regional meteorological station.
