Twenty-two workers were trapped by a coal mine flood early today in Qujing City in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

BEIJING: Twenty-two workers were trapped by a coal mine flood early today in Qujing City in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The flooding occurred at 4.50 a.m. (local time) in a mine in Qilin District, where 26 workers were working underground, the emergency office of the Qujing municipal government said.

Local government authorities have sent rescue teams to the mine, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

So far four workers have been rescued.
