SYDNEY: Wal-Mart Stores, the world's largest retailer, will pay 529.8 million dollars in bonuses to 8,13,759 full and part-time staff at its stores.
The company also plans to pay the bonuses quarterly, rather than on an annual basis, Bentonville, Arkansas-based Wal-Mart said today. Workers at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club branded outlets will be eligible for the payments, which are allocated on store performance.
Wal-Mart has come under attack from labour groups that say the company needs to boost wages and health coverage for workers. The company also announced a new programme to recognise the more than 13,400 staff who had worked at Wal-Mart for more than 20 years, with eligible employees getting an extra week's pay.
Wal-Mart will provide and unspecified cash awards to staff who give "outstanding" customer service, it said.
