Vodafone acquires 70 pc stake in Ghana Telecom

Britain's Vodafone Group Plc said on Thursday it had acquired a 70 pc stake in Ghana Telecom for $900 mn.

LONDON: Britain's Vodafone Group Plc said on Thursday it had acquired a 70 per cent stake in Ghana Telecom for $900 mn.

Vodafone said the Government of Ghana would retain a 30 per cent stake in the company which has an enterprise value of around $1.3 bn.

"Ghana is one of the most attractive markets in Africa with mobile subscribers growing at more than 55 per cent per annum and mobile penetration around 35 per cent," Vodafone Chief Executive Arun Sarin said in a statement.
