HANOI: Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung planned to depart for England, Ireland and Germany on Monday for a weeklong European tour.
Dung hopes to expand economic ties and enhance development aid, according to Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dung is scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern.
He planned to talk with business leaders in the three countries and sign a number of agreements on investment and development aid.
Germany is one of Vietnam's top European trade and investment partners. Bilateral trade between the two countries reached US$4 billion last year.
Two-way trade between Vietnam and Britain was worth US$1.8 billion in the same period.
Trade between Vietnam and Ireland was more than US$100 million, according to government figures.
