Venezuela warns foreigners meddling not allowed

Venezuela made that warning after its expulsion of two human rights monitors from the U.S.-based organization Human Rights Watch

CARACAS: Venezuela is warning it won't tolerate 'meddling' in its affairs by foreigners who visit the country.

Venezuela made that warning after its expulsion of two human rights monitors from the U.S.-based organization Human Rights Watch.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday that it supports the broadest freedoms and human rights guarantees. But it added the government ``will not tolerate any meddling or interference in its internal affairs'' by foreigners passing through the country.

Venezuela expelled Human Rights Watch's Americas director Jose Miguel Vivanco and his deputy director Daniel Wilkinson just hours after they presented a report saying the government has undermined freedom of speech and intimidated critics.
