Zlatan Ibrahimovic announces retirement from football at 41, says ‘it’s goodbye to football’

Zlatan Ibrahimmovic in an emotional speech announcing his retirement, stressed that he will be a “Milan fan for the whole” but added that “It’s time to say goodbye to football, not you”.

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic announces his retirement from football after they played season’s final game against Hellas Verona on Sunday, June 4. Ibrahimovic was reduced to tears as he bid farewell to the club in front of the spectators at San Siro and ended his career.

In an emotional speech, Ibrahimovic recalled that the first time they arrived at Milan, the fans gave him happiness and the second time, he said that he received love. The striker further said, “From my heart I want to thank you fans” and added, “You welcomed me with open arms, you made me feel at home”.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic stressed, “I will be a Milan fan for the whole It’s time to say goodbye to fall, not you [fans]”.




Ibrahimovic’s speech on Sunday came after AC Milan revealed this week that he would be leaving the club concluding a season which was overshadowed by his injuries. Although the 41-year-old maintained that he would keep playing the next season, he has now announced a stop to his career. After previously playing for Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, Ibrahimovic made only four appearances for AC Milan this season. He last featured in the match against Udinese on March 18.

The Swedish player decided to conclude a trophy-laden career in which he featured for clubs such as Malmo, Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United and the LA Galaxy. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has also bagged several league titles in Netherlands, Spain, France and Italy in 24 years of professionally playing the game.
