Zelensky Wife Letter Delivered

President Zelensky handed Donald Trump a letter from his wife, Olena Zelenska, addressed to Melania Trump. While passing the note, Zelensky said, “It’s not to you, it’s to your wife,” sparking laughter.

The exchange happened days after Trump’s Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. That meeting focused on cease-fire discussions but ended without any agreement on Ukraine.

Melania Trump’s Letter to Vladimir Putin

Earlier, Melania Trump had written a letter to Vladimir Putin urging him to protect children affected by war. Her message highlighted the universal dreams of children and called on Putin to restore their safety.

She wrote, “Every child dreams of love, possibility, and safety from danger. Mr. Putin, you can singlehandedly restore their melodic laughter.” The letter emphasized protecting children as a responsibility to humanity.

Children Affected by Ukraine Conflict

According to Bring Kids Back UA, an initiative started by President Zelensky, nearly 20,000 children have been forcibly removed or deported from Ukraine. Reports by the OSCE and human rights groups confirm children have been abused and denied family contact.

The United Nations condemned Russia, with U.N. Human Rights Chief Volker Türk describing the violations as large-scale and severe. Since 2022, at least 669 children have been killed and over 1,800 injured in Ukraine.

Only about 1,500 of the deported children have been returned, showing the scale of the crisis. Forty countries, including EU nations, have demanded Russia return the children.

US Talks and Zelensky’s Stance

During the Washington meeting, President Trump welcomed Zelensky and suggested the possibility of US troops assisting Ukraine. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were present, along with European leaders, such as Ursula von der Leyen, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz, Giorgia Meloni, and Alexander Stubb.

This meeting contrasted with Zelensky’s February visit, which was marked by tension. On this occasion, both sides tried to avoid confrontation.

However, Trump caused concern by suggesting Ukraine should abandon Crimea and NATO membership. He claimed Zelensky could “end the war immediately if he wanted to.” Zelensky strongly rejected ceding territory to Russia.

Trump, Zelensky, and Possible Trilateral Talks

Trump told reporters that a trilateral meeting with Putin could take place if discussions with Zelensky were productive. He said such a meeting could provide a chance to end the war.

Zelensky, while open to dialogue, emphasized the importance of sovereignty and returning children taken from Ukraine. European leaders showed support for Ukraine’s position.
