Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a series based on Andy Lane’s "Young Sherlock Holmes" novels. Hero Fiennes Tiffin will star in the lead role, with Guy Ritchie directing and executive producing the series, a Variety report said.

Amazon Prime Video has ordered an eight-episode series based on Andy Lane’s “Young Sherlock Holmes” novels. Hero Fiennes Tiffin will play the lead role. Guy Ritchie will direct and executive produce the series. This project marks a reunion for Ritchie and Tiffin, who previously worked together on “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.”

Director

Guy Ritchie has directed two Sherlock Holmes films featuring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams. In this new series, Ritchie promises to reveal a fresh perspective on the detective. He aims to uncover what drives Sherlock Holmes and how he becomes the genius detective known worldwide.

Production Team

Matthew Parkhill is the writer, showrunner, and executive producer for the series. Other executive producers include Guy Ritchie, Andy Lane, Simon Kelton, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson and Marc Resteghini. Harriet Creelman will co-executive produce for Motive Pictures. Physical production will be managed by Motive Pictures.

Project Development

Kelton originally packaged the project with Atkinson before partnering with Motive, Gilbert and Resteghini. The project was then brought to Amazon MGM Studios, where both Gilbert and Resteghini have overall deals.

Plot

The series will be an action-packed origin story of Sherlock Holmes. At 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced and unformed when he becomes involved in a murder mystery at Oxford University. This case will change his life forever as he uncovers a globe-trotting conspiracy.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin is known for his roles in “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” “The Woman King,” “The Loneliest Boy in the World,” “First Love,” the “After” franchise, and “The Silencing.” He also played a young Tom Riddle in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”
