Ecuador joins US in announcing tariffs on Mexican goods
If US President Donald Trump's announcements about imposing tariffs on foreign products of specific countries were a headache for Mexico, there is more bad news for the country. Now, the Ecuador government has also announced a whopping tariff of 27 per cent on goods manufactured in Mexico and sold in the country, in a move to enhance the local industries of Ecuador.

Ecuador joins US in announcing tariffs on Mexican goods

Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa made this latest announcement on Monday, but he also said that his government believes in a potential free trade deal with Mexico, but not when there are 'cases of abuse', according to a Reuters report. While making this announcement President Noboa said that a whopping 27 per cent tariff will now be applied on Mexican goods.

This announcement by Ecuador's government comes right after new US President Donald Trump's decision to impose major tariffs on goods from China, Mexico, and Canada. President Trump had been calling for this imposing of tariffs since the US Presidential election 2024 campaigns, and as soon as he took the dais at the Presidential inauguration ceremony, he made his decision official.

It is yet to be seen if other countries follow suit in a bid to save their respective local industries, which could pose problems for Mexico and other countries that make major revenue through foreign exports.
