You can watch free TV on Google TV Freeplay; here's how you can do it

Google is striving hard to make the multitude happy with this new manoeuvre. In an effort to increase traffic, Google TV Streamer is rearranging how users locate the free channel section. The hundreds of free channels that Google has licensed are being moved by the Google TV Streamer to a new section called Google TV Freeplay. This tab can be found integrated into the row of available streaming apps in the user interface of the device, next to famous streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, Max, and others.

Google wants users to be cognizant of this option that it provides free streaming channels. The channels themselves are not particularly new; in April 2023, Google released a selection of over 800 free ad-supported TV (FAST) channels, which were accessible on the Android TV and Google TV operating systems. Since the introduction of the new Google TV Streamer device, the locations of the channels within those operating systems have already changed multiple times.

Viewers can browse or search for specific networks in the channel guide by clicking on the Google TV Freeplay icon. Other free, ad-supported content may be added by Google to this tab as a result of the rebrand, though this has not been confirmed. On September 24, when Google TV Streamer devices ship, the new Google TV Freeplay app will be available. The new streaming player model is a paradigm shift from earlier Google streaming devices; it replaces the dongle design with a set-top box in the form of a pill. Customers will be able to stream 4K content with the Google TV Streamer, which will retail for $99.99 and include 32GB of storage.

To guarantee they receive the new Google TV Streamer as soon as it goes on sale on September 24, customers can place their preorders now. Although the exact date of other Android TV and Google TV devices' transition to Google TV Freeplay is unknown at this time, it is expected to happen when the Google TV Streamer starts to ship next month.

These streaming channels were initially accessible through a Live tab when Google first integrated them into the interfaces for Android TV and Google TV. That made some sense because, technically, the networks are live channels. However, since the term live has historically been more frequently associated with cable or broadcast TV networks, it also makes sense that many viewers may not have thought to look for them there.
