McMahon, 30, was among the most coveted position players on the trade market and brings immediate stability to a Yankees infield that has recently relied on a platoon of Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas at the hot corner.
A 2024 All-Star, McMahon is hitting .217 with 16 home runs and 35 RBIs while leading all major leaguers with 100 games played at third base this season.
Under contract for $16 million annually through 2026, McMahon brings both power and experience to the Bronx. He owns a career .240 batting average with 140 home runs and 452 RBIs over parts of nine seasons with Colorado.
In return, the Rockies receive two promising arms. Herring, 22, is ranked as the Yankees’ No. 8 prospect by MLB Pipeline and boasts a 7-3 record with a 1.71 ERA across 16 starts between Single-A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley.
Grosz, also 22, has compiled a 4-8 record with a 4.14 ERA over 16 appearances (15 starts) for Hudson Valley this season.
The deal reflects New York’s aggressive approach ahead of the trade deadline as they look to strengthen their roster for a postseason push.
