Trent Grisham blasted his second grand slam in five days and Jazz Chisholm Jr. added a pair of homers to power the New York Yankees past the Houston Astros 7-1 on Tuesday night. The win came after Sunday’s setback against the White Sox, which ended a seven-game streak, and kept the Yankees within 2 1/2 games of AL East leaders Toronto, who outslugged Cincinnati 12-9. It also marked the Yankees’ eighth consecutive victory in Houston, a streak that stretches back to 2023.

Max Fried (15-5) was sharp on the mound, limiting Houston to four hits and one run over seven innings with five strikeouts. The left-hander set the tone early, holding the Astros hitless until the fifth inning. Houston finally broke through when Cam Smith singled, but Fried fanned the next three batters to escape trouble.

The Yankees struck first in the second inning when Chisholm launched a two-run shot off Framber Valdez (12-8). In the fifth, New York loaded the bases after Valdez issued a walk to Paul Goldschmidt and surrendered singles to Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge. Giancarlo Stanton struck out, but Grisham delivered the decisive blow with a towering slam to left, extending the lead to 6-0. It marked the Yankees’ eighth grand slam of the season.

Valdez, who had blanked Colorado in his previous start, was tagged for eight hits and six runs over five innings despite recording eight strikeouts. Chisholm capped his standout night with a solo homer in the eighth, his fourth multihomer game this year. Houston managed only one run, with Carlos Correa scoring on a forceout in the sixth, but the Yankees’ offense and Fried’s dominance proved too much.
