WWE NXT delivered a high-stakes Tuesday night episode on August 19 from The Met in Philadelphia, headlined by Je’Von Evans defeating Trick Williams to secure the No. 1 contender’s spot for the NXT Championship. Evans will now face Oba Femi for the title at Heatwave this Sunday.

In another highlight, Josh Briggs triumphed over Yoshiki Inamura in a brutal Street Fight, showcasing his toughness ahead of Heatwave. The event set the stage for an action-packed weekend, with rivalries intensifying and momentum shifting as NXT’s biggest stars prepared for battle. Evans’ victory stood out as the defining moment, propelling him into the championship spotlight.

Briggs defeats Inamura

The night opened with a heated Street Fight between Briggs and Inamura, wasting no time with formalities. The rivals brawled around the ring from the start, using weapons to escalate their feud. Briggs tied Inamura to the ropes with tape and unleashed brutal kendo stick shots, only for Inamura to fight back with his own offense. Both men went through tables in a chaotic battle that showcased the personal nature of their storyline. In the end, Briggs secured the win with a risky top-rope spot, landing awkwardly but effectively. It was a wild, high-energy match to kick off NXT.

Ricky Saints beats Jasper Troy

As Saints headed to the ring for his clash with Troy, he crossed paths with Briggs and received a shoulder push, a clear sign of disrespect. Once the match began, Saints struck first with a dropkick, though Troy barely budged. A sleeper hold briefly brought the powerhouse down to one knee, but Troy muscled his way out. The bout followed the classic dynamic of smaller wrestler versus larger opponent, though Saints isn’t small himself - highlighting just how imposing Troy is. Despite some visible inexperience from Troy, Saints carried the action well and secured victory after a missed senton on the steel steps and back-to-back DDTs.

Jordynne Grace, Blake Monroe meet face to face ahead of Heatwave

Grace and Monroe had their final confrontation before Heatwave, with a contract in place preventing Grace from touching her rival. Grace reflected on their brief friendship, humorously noting that pro wrestling bonds rarely last, but she had believed they might be the exception. She opened up about her insecurities and transition into WWE, only for Monroe to exploit them. When Monroe arrived, Grace accused her of jealousy, recalling how Monroe once watched her compete at Evolution. Instead of breaking the contract, Grace attacked Monroe’s security and warned she’ll reveal 'what ugly really looks like' at Heatwave.

Fatal Influence defeats The Elegance Brand

TNA stars Heather, M, and Ash crossed over to NXT this week for a six-woman tag against Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Jazmyn Nyx, with Masha Slamovich serving as special guest referee. The bout was evenly contested, giving all six women moments to shine, though Ash carried much of the workload as the most recognisable name from her side. Slamovich ejected a ringside concierge after interference, but not before he helped swing momentum. In the closing stretch, Ash nearly secured victory, only for Jayne to capitalise on a referee distraction and drop her with a huge right hand for the win.

Ethan Page & Chelsea Green segment with Tavion Heights & Tyra Mae Steele

Page and Green debuted new joint entrance music for their segment with Steel and Heights, setting the stage for more verbal sparring. Page opened by praising Heights’ in-ring work before turning the compliment into a gripe about feeling disrespected. The back-and-forth dragged at times, with little fresh ground covered until Ava stepped out and officially booked a mixed tag match between the two sides. Page and Green delivered their usual entertaining antics, and the short brawl to close the segment added some energy.

Je’Von Evans sets up title clash with Oba Femi

The August 19's NXT episode closed with a dramatic No. 1 Contender’s match between Evans and Williams. Evans was busted open early but responded with a barrage of kicks to swing momentum. The match turned chaotic when Williams shoved Evans off the top rope, sending him crashing through the announce table in one of NXT’s wildest non-PLE spots in recent memory. Evans barely beat the count back into the ring, only to be met with more punishment. Williams seemed in control until Mike Santana appeared, creating just enough of a distraction for Evans to hit his finisher and score the pin, securing his NXT Championship shot at Heatwave.
