The Covid Zero policy -- which has its origin in the early days of the pandemic in Wuhan -- uses lockdowns, mass testing and restrictions on travel to contain the virus’s spread in India.
Wuhan, the epicentre of Covid in 2019, is grabbing headlines again. New lockdowns are being implemented from Wuhan to China's industrial belt on the east coast to Tibet making matters worse. More than 900,000 people in the Hanyang district were instructed to stay at home till Sunday after the central Chinese city, the location of the first COVID-19 epidemic in the globe in late 2019, reported 20 to 25 new illnesses daily.

Chinese government officials said there were more than 1,300 new coronavirus cases nationwide on Friday, with no deaths, and the majority of cases asymptomatic, a low number compared to the thousands per day that shut down Shanghai earlier this year, but enough to warrant tighter restrictions across the country. The number of cases is the highest tally in two weeks.

Following the discovery of a COVID case, which officials claimed was connected to the regional pig supply chain, the sale of pork in several areas of Wuhan was also halted. According to social media posts, metal barriers have been put up in the Jiang'an and Qiaokou districts to limit movement, and businesses and neighbourhoods in other regions where cases or close contacts have visited have also been sealed down.
