Its newest attraction, a cockroach coffee, has quickly become a talking point among visitors looking for something bold, bizarre and surprisingly popular online. The drink, priced at 45 yuan, blends ground cockroaches on top and dried yellow mealworms mixed into the brew, drawing both fascination and hesitation.

What makes this cockroach coffee so unusual?
Visitors have described the flavor as “burnt and slightly sour,” according to The Cover, a reaction that mirrors much of the curiosity surrounding the drink. Sold inside the coffee shops of the insect museum, the unusual brew has become one of its most discussed offerings. According to the South China Morning Post, the museum’s name was not disclosed in the report.An employee explained that the coffee first launched at the end of June before gaining traction online. “As an insect-themed museum, it seemed like a good idea to have drinks that match,” the employee said, noting that the unusual concept aligns perfectly with the museum’s theme.

The cockroach coffee isn’t the only creative option on the menu. The museum also serves drinks made with the digestive juice of a pitcher plant and previously introduced a limited-edition ant drink for Halloween. All ingredients are purchased from a traditional Chinese medicine herb shop, reassuring customers that each drink is safe to consume. Reactions are mixed. Beijing blogger Chen Xi tried the roach coffee at his followers’ request and admitted, “It is not as disgusting as I thought,” after quickly drinking it with his eyes closed. However, not everyone is convinced. One online user commented, “I dare not drink it even if you pay me.”Still, despite online hesitation, the buzz has only brought more curious, mostly young visitors to the museum. Parents with children, on the other hand, often avoid it simply because they dislike cockroaches.
