It has been almost a year now since Wordle was released. It's also been some time since it became a global sensation and Twitter users’ favourite pastime. What hasn’t stopped though is people’s attachment to the game.

A lot has happened since Wordle was released last year. A number of similar games showed up on app stores. Some made their mark, while most failed. Wordle went from being just another word game to being bought by the New York Times. Many feared at the time that being owned by a big corporation probably meant the game was going to be monetized, but it hasn’t been the case so far. The transition just saw many players lose their streaks, but Wordle, more or less, remains the same.

Another day means it’s time to work out the answer for Aug. 18th’s Wordle.

For the ones who haven’t been caught by the Wordle bug yet, it’s a word puzzle that requires players to solve for a five-letter word in six attempts. There’s a streak element to the game, which signifies the number of days a player has gone without failing. And the streak is exactly why you might have found your way to this article.

The infected people are from Michigan -- two employees of a Michigan mink farm that experienced a coronavirus outbreak in October 2020 -- while the other two had no known links to the farm.

Samples of the virus from all four people contained two mutations that scientists have hypothesised may be signs of adaptation to mink. The mutations have previously been documented in farmed minks in Europe, as well as in people with connections to those farms.

Also, that the farm workers tested positive for Covid-19 after the mink herd fell ill and started dying suggested this: the workers were infected after contact with mink on the farm.

Mink-to-human transmission has also been reported in Denmark, the Netherlands and elsewhere. Overall, transmission of the virus from animals to humans is believed to be rare. Humans are more likely to infect each other, rather than get it from animals.
