Woods Fire: Evacuation starts in California's Tuolumne County

The forest fire dubbed "Woods Fire" has burned 40 acres so far, and the Sheriff's office decided to issue evacuation orders for several regions in the county. Wildfires near Jamestown have cut off Charbroullian, Mountain Vista Court, Lanes east of McKibbin, and Gold Links Road.

The crew is dealing with heavy fuel and rugged terrain as wildfires erupt in the Golf Links area. Emily Kilgore, a spokeswoman for the California Fire Department, said the fire was burning with a mild spread. Authorities are requesting people to steer clear of the area. PG&E will be closed in the North Drive and Outlook Drive areas. Although the outage is planned, it may affect other areas.

Preparation to tackle the wildfire widely

The 2021 fire season started earlier than usual but ended early, according to the state fire department. About 1,200 acres were burned in about 300 wildfires in January 2021. Fires increased during the summer as the Dixie fires broke out in five counties in Northern California. By October 25, nearly one million acres had been burned. It was the second largest wildfire in state history and the largest uncomplicated fire.




In 2021, 8,835 wildfires burned a total of 2.5 million acres. Over 3,600 buildings were destroyed and three people were killed.

The Fire Department suggests creating protective spaces around personal homes when a person is in a wildfire-prone area. A defensive space is an area around a building that has been completely cleared of vegetation and other debris, and it should be at least a hundred feet high. Some evacuation centres and animal shelters have also been set up.

Homeland Security suggests having an emergency kit containing necessary paperwork, N95 masks, and supplies in case of an emergency evacuation. Agencies are also suggesting that you sign up for local alert system alerts and be aware of your community's evacuation plans to prepare yourself and your family for wildfires.
