This event happens just days before Mars reaches its brightest and most visible position in over two years. Mars will reach opposition on Thursday, January 16, aligning directly with Earth and the sun. At that point, its disk will be fully illuminated from Earth’s perspective. This alignment happens every 789 days due to Mars’ slower orbit around the sun.
