Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has withdrawn from participating in this weekend’s WNBA All-Star festivities to rest a right groin injury. Clark, who led all players in fan voting and was named a starter and team captain for Saturday’s game in Indianapolis, also opted out of the 3-point contest.

"I have to rest my body," Clark said in a statement released by the Fever. "I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I’m looking forward to helping Sandy [Brondello] coach our team to a win."

Phoenix Mercury forward Satou Sabally, originally selected as a starter for Team Clark, also pulled out earlier in the week due to an ankle injury.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert named Washington Mystics guard Brittney Sykes and Atlanta Dream forward Brionna Jones as replacements.

This marks Sykes’ first All-Star appearance, and she enters the break averaging 17.1 points per game. Jones, a four-time All-Star, is contributing 13.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Despite Clark’s absence on the court, her presence will still be felt as she joins Team Clark’s bench to support her squad during the league’s showcase weekend.
