With 341.2 million hours viewing time, ‘Wednesday’ becomes most-watched series on Netflix in release’s first week

‘Wednesday’ set a new milestone for Netflix. Since its debut last week, the series has surpassed the popular ‘Stranger Things season 4’ for the most watched hours for an English-language series in a week in the streaming service's history.

Released on November 23, the series, based on Charles Addams' legendary comic strip, has received over 341.2 million hours of viewing time. The series has overtaken ‘Stranger Things season 4’, which previously held the record with 335.01 million hours in its first week from May 30 to June 5.

Squid Game currently holds the all-time record with 571.8M hours seen in its peak week on Netflix.


The series, directed and produced by Tim Burton and starring Jenna Ortega, Gwendoline Christie, Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones, follows the Addams family's 16-year-old sarcastic and uncompromising goth daughter as she enrolls in a new boarding school, Nevermore Academy, where she is surrounded by mysterious spirits and supernatural creatures.



‘Wednesday’ has entered the Top 10 in all 93 countries that Netflix monitors, and it is now No. 1 in 83 of them – a record it shares with ‘Stranger Things Season 4’.

According to Netflix, more than 50 million homes watched ‘Wednesday’.

‘1899’ remained in second place on the English-language TV series list with 87.89 million hours of viewership following the first week, while Season 5 of ‘The Crown’ dropped to third place with 42.36 million hours viewership, ending its two-week dominance at the top of the chart.
