Winter Storm Forecast for January 31 and February 1

Low-Pressure System Could Intensify Winter Impacts Along the East Coast
With frigid temperatures expected to be firmly in place, Santorelli pointed out that a developing low-pressure system along the coast could add to the winter weather impacts in parts of the East that were hit by the storm that cleared out on January 26, as per the USA Today report.Previous Winter Storm Dumped Over 20 Inches of Snow and Ice
The earlier storm dumped more than 20 inches of snow and sleet along the coast and caused more than a million power outages. Behind it, a surge of arctic air pushed temperatures sharply lower across a wide stretch of the country, from Texas to Maine and as far south as Central Florida. Below-zero wind chills were expected across much of the US on the morning of January 27.Also read: Who is Joe Brady? Meet the 36-year-old taking over as Buffalo Bills’ new head coach
Forecasters Warn of High Uncertainty in Storm Track and Strength
Forecasters caution that it is still too early to know exactly how the next system will behave.Santorelli said, "Right now it's impossible to determine where the storm will set up, where the precipitation could fall and what kind of precipitation it might be," adding, "There's a lot of uncertainty on where it tracks and how much precipitation parts of the East might get," as quoted by USA Today.
Gulf Coast and East Coast Could See Impacts as Early as Friday
Early model guidance suggests parts of the Gulf Coast and East Coast could begin seeing impacts as soon as Friday, January 30, as per AccuWeather. Paul Pasterok, AccuWeather’s long-range outlook expert, explained that, "How fast the storm strengthens will be a determining factor in the final track of the storm this weekend and whether or not it moves up the East Coast," as quoted by USA Today.Rain Likely in the South, Wintry Mix Possible in Southeast States
AccuWeather predicts rain is most likely south of Interstate 10 from Louisiana to Florida, while areas farther north across parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia could see a mix of snow.
