Winter storm warnings for six states: The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter storm advisories across six states, with heavy snow expected between Sunday, Dec. 7, and Monday, Dec. 8. According to Men’s Journal, Alaska, Illinois, Michigan, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wyoming are all under winter weather warnings, who cited NSW as totals range from light flurries in Chicago to more than a foot of snow in Alaska.

Heaviest snowfall will be in Alaska

Alaska is expected to see the most severe impact, with cities such as Elfin Cove and Pelican forecast to receive 8 to 12 inches of snow. Kake and Port Alexander may see 3 to 5 inches, along with winds exceeding 40 miles per hour.

“A pattern change is bringing colder temperatures and strong outflow winds extending southward through the weekend. This pattern, in combination with prolonged moisture, is producing accumulating heavy snow for the Haines,” the Mens Journal quoted NWS as saying.

Heavy to moderate snowfall is expected to continue over the Icy Strait Corridor as an arctic boundary shifts south of the Hoonah–Juneau area. According to the outlet, another band of heavier precipitation is also forecast to move through on Sunday morning.

Mountain West region to witness 10 inches of snow

Men’s Journal reported that Wyoming could receive up to 10 inches of snow in the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains. In Michigan, Central Chippewa and Western Chippewa counties may see up to six inches throughout Sunday.
