Vivek Ramaswamy has been requested by Donald Trump to fill JD Vance's Senate seat from Ohio.
US President- elect Donald Trump is reportedly encouraging Vivek Ramaswamy who was his former rival in the GOP primary 2024 to eventually consider an appointment to the vacant US Senate seat in the state of Ohio, reported USA Today.

According to USA Today, this position actually became available following US Vice President- elect JD Vance's resignation. Additionally, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will appoint a successor who will serve until the next election in the month of November of the year 2026 when voters will be choosing someone to complete JD Vance's term through 2028.

Vivek Ramaswamy who is a biotech entrepreneur and an Ohio native as well had previously withdrawn his name from consideration for the Senate seat but has reemerged as a candidate after a recent meeting with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, asserted USA Today. His eventual interest in the position actually comes after he faced backlash for comments regarding American culture and ‘mediocrity’.

While Vivek Ramaswamy is also involved in leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk, it still remains pretty unclear how a Senate appointment would affect his role there.

At the same time, other potential candidates for the Senate seat include Lt. Gov. Jon Husted and former Ohio Republican Party chair Jane Timken, noted USA Today. Lt. Gov. Jon Husted is actually seen as a frontrunner but is contemplating whether to pursue the Senate appointment or focus on a gubernatorial run in the year 2026. On the other hand, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has not yet made a decision but is actually expected to announce his choice pretty soon.
