Nicholas Cage disappointed his fans when he shot down the idea of 'National Treasure 3' after his character Ben Gates decided to steal the Declaration of Independence. But producer Jerry Bruckheimer has shown a ray of hope to his fanbase by assuring them that there would be a sequel to Disney's beloved modern franchise. Talking to 'MovieWeb', the famous producer of films like 'Top Gun' said that he was optimistic on making 'National Treasure 3'.

"Writers working on 'National Treasure 3'"

He said, "Well, we hope there's a National Treasure 3. We've been working on it for quite a while. We have a brilliant writer working on it right now, so hopefully, if we get a script in a timely fashion, we'll send it to Nic [Cage] and, if he likes it, we'll make another one. We certainly would like to."

What did Nicholas Cage say?

This is in contrast to Nicholas Cage, who told 'Screen Rant' bluntly that there was no idea of National Treasure 3. Talking to the entertainment news website, he said, "Here we go! See, you're the one that brings these things up, and they go out and they eclipse everything else. No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don't look at Disney, okay? It's not there."

Bruckheimer is one of the most respected and commercially successful producers in Hollywood at present. He has been a part of making franchise movies like 'Pirates of the Caribbean', 'Beverly Hills Cop', 'Bad Boys', and 'Top Gun'.

With its first installment hitting the theaters in 2004, the National Treasure franchise began as an action-adventure drama. It proved to be a major box-office success. It was followed by its sequel 'National Treasure: Book of Secrets' in 2007. Buoyed by the success of the first two films, a third National Treasure film was announced in September 2008.

The treasure-hunting duology was considered Disney's answer to Indiana Jones. 'National Treasure' and its sequel, 'Book of Secrets' established their own identity by taking characters and their love for history seriously. Nicholas Cage is best known for portraying Ben Gates, who offered him an opportunity to establish himself as an action-adventure hero. Besides, Disney+ made National Treasure: Edge of History, a single 10-episode season during 2022-23.
