Will 'The Stranger Season 2' happen? Know about Netflix plans

After 'The Stranger' premiered with an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score and became quite popular, is there a chance of extending it to Season 2? What has Netflix planned?

Is Netflix working on the follow-up of 'The Stranger'? After the series debuted on the streamer a few years ago and ran successfully, it is natural to ask if fans should expect more action. Based on author Harlan Coben’s 2015 novel of the same name, it arrived on Netflix in early 2020. Starring Richard Armitage and Hannah John-Kamen, 'The Stranger' premiered with an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score and became quite popular.

Will 'The Stranger' Season 2 happen?

The chances of 'The Stranger' Season 2 are quite slim because it was a miniseries, planned to last a single season only. Secondly, it was based on a standalone novel. Earlier in 2020, author Harlan Coben said that after the series had premiered on Netflix, he didn’t think it was 'fair' to drag out the story into another batch of episodes.

He said, "In crime dramas like ‘The Stranger’ or ‘Safe or The Woods’, I don’t think it’s fair to make viewers watch several seasons before you get the answers."

Planned as a miniseries

Coben added that 'The Stranger' was conceived as a miniseries for a reason and that the production team hadn’t felt a need to tell more tales with the characters. He said, "We created the series to be only one season for that reason, and so far, we haven’t felt compelled to bring the characters back."

Harlan Coben declines the offer

The author declined the offer of Netflix to extend the series and produce more of 'The Stranger'. Expressing his desire to move on to his next project, Coben said, "When we did ‘The Stranger’, we were offered the possibility to do season 2, but I was like, ‘I just think the story of ‘Stay Close’ will be better than a season 2 right now of ‘The Stranger’.’ One day I may change my mind. After I finish this one, I may change my mind after it airs, but right now, I’m pretty happy doing it that way."
