Will Tesla operate 10–12 gigafactories in future? Here is what Elon Mask said

World's richest man Elon Musk indicated automotive giant Tesla's plan to build more than ten gigafactories in the future. He also hinted that he would select the area for the new gigafactory at the end of this year.

At Tesla's late-Thursday annual shareholder meeting, termed "Cyber Roundup," Musk confirmed the production of Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta advanced driver assistance system.

The CEO spoke in-depth about Tesla's automobile production plants at the Gigafactory Texas gathering called Cyber Roundup. He mentioned that this year had seen the opening of two other Tesla plants, the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg and the Gigafactory Texas, both producing the Model Y. The latter is Tesla's only factory that produces the Model Y, which is powered by 4680 battery cells arranged in structural groups.


There have been reports that Tesla is considering opening new factories in the northeastern United States, India, and Indonesia.

Tesla System for Charging to be Available for Non-Tesla EVs
Non-Tesla EVs will soon be able to use the Tesla system for charging.
Musk stated that the highly anticipated Cybertruck, announced in 2019, would also be revealed shortly, but he did not provide any additional information.

By the end of this year, the Tesla CEO stated, the company hopes to reach a run rate of 2 million vehicles.

The three-for-one stock split will lower Tesla's shares to $300.
Automotive accounted for $14.6 billion of the overall sales in Q2 of Tesla's overall revenue of $16.93 billion.

Musk indicated Canada as the location for Tesla's upcoming Gigafactory.

When they asked for location hints, Musk claimed that after the group of investors screamed their ideas, Canada was the most widely cited.
It is the second time Musk has indicated that Canada would be the destination of Tesla's Gigafactory.

Whether or not Tesla's upcoming Gigafactory will be in Canada, Musk also said it would be one of the 10–12 auto assembly plants the company is constructing and will have a sizable annual production capacity.

For comparison, the two Tesla Gigafactories that have produced the most vehicles to date, Giga Shanghai and Fremont Factory, have performed brilliantly, producing over 500,000 vehicles in 2017.
