Will Smith is making a return to music after almost two decades. His new album, Based on a True Story, is set for release on March 28. This marks his first album since Lost and Found in 2005.

Will Smith’s New Album Release Date

Will Smith announced his upcoming album, Based on a True Story, on social media. He confirmed the release date as March 28 and encouraged fans to pre-save the album. The album consists of 14 songs, including five previously released tracks and nine new ones.

Smith also hinted that this album is part of a trilogy. He referred to it as Season 1: R.I.T.W.. The album will be released under indie label Slang Records.


Tracklist and Collaborations

The album features songs released in 2024, such as Tantrum, Work of Art, First Love, You Can Make It and Beautiful Scars. The album also includes collaborations. The opening track, Int. Barbershop Day, features DJ Jazzy Jeff and Simone. Another track, Hard Times, includes Jac Ross. Other songs on the album are Rave in the Wasteland, You Lookin’ for Me?, and Make It Look Easy.

Will Smith’s Music Career

Will Smith started as a rapper in the 1980s. He formed the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. The group gained fame with their album He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper, released in 1988. They had hit songs like Parents Just Don’t Understand and A Nightmare on My Street.

After becoming famous on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff had their biggest hit, Summertime, in 1991. He later launched a solo career and released Big Willie Style in 1997. The album included Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It, which became a No. 1 hit. Smith also had success with Wild Wild West, which was the title track of his 1999 movie. He released two more albums, Willennium in 1999 and Born to Reign in 2002.

Upcoming Live Performance

Smith is scheduled to perform live on March 23. The performance will take place after the CONCACAF Nations League final at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
