Will Microsoft open Xbox mobile store next year? Here is what we know

If a post on Reddit is to be believed, Microsoft may launch their first Xbox mobile store early next year. A user Zombienerd300 has made this claim, but it has not been confirmed. Earlier in 2019 it was rumored that the tech giant would be launching a new cross-development platform code named XDK. It was also said at that time that the new platform would work with Apple, Android, and Nintendo Switch too. It proved to be a baseless rumor as nothing of this type happened.

Digital Markets Act

According to Gameranx, Microsoft has revealed the plan in the documents it has submitted to the CMA in the course of their investigation of their Activision deal. It has also claimed that the rules of the Digital Markets Act will require companies like Apple and Android, and Amazon, to change the way their platforms work.

Third-party stores

It will also impact Google which allows its users to ‘sideload’ apps. It has also been claimed that many Android OEMs have started adding their own third-party stores on their devices. Now, after the European Union makes the change, the Android ROM will allow you to install Samsung or any other store you want. Apple will also have to do the same.

EU guidelines

If these companies fail to comply with the EU guidelines, the 28-member bloc can force them to leave their highly lucrative, and profitable market. Though firms like Apple do not like to change like this, they will do so under pressure.

Though the EU announced its Digital Markets Act in December last year, it has confirmed that it would give the companies more time to implement the same. Taking advantage of the situation, Microsoft has planned for an Xbox Mobile Store.
