In a bizarre twist of tale, Donald Trump who earlier accused Venezuela of releasing half of its criminals and sending them to the US to slash the crime rate at home, has now said that he would go to that Latin American country if he loses the US Presidential Election 2024. In an interview with Elon Musk live on social media platform X, he also invited the billionaire businessman to join him there over dinner. He said if something happens with this election, which would be a horror show, he will meet him the next time in Venezuela because it will be a far safer place to meet than the US.

Donald Trump: Jails in Venezuela half-vacant

According to 'Newsweek', the Republican candidate told the Tesla CEO the crime rate of Venezuela is coming down and that of the US is going through the roof. Calling it simple, he said these people have come into the US and they are getting acclimated and they don't know about being politically correct, law enforcement, or lack of law enforcement and the police. He also said Venezuela has gotten rid of 70% of criminals and its jails are 50% vacant.

"No evidence Venezuela sends criminals to US"

Responding to this bizarre claim, Roberto Briceno-Leon, the founder and director of the OVV said to 'factcheck.org' that there is no evidence that Venezuela is sending criminals to the U.S. He told the outlet there is no evidence that the Venezuelan government is emptying the prisons or mental hospitals to send them out of the country, whether to the US or any other country.

People flee Venezuela due to economic hardship

He said that the real reason behind the drop in the crime rate is a massive out-migration of nearly 8 million people since 2014 due to worsening economic and living conditions.

According to the BBC, millions of people left Venezuela to escape economic hardship and political repression. Extreme poverty remains high and it has contributed to more than 7.7 million people leaving Venezuela to seek better lives abroad. A government-controlled electoral authority declared Nicolas Maduro the winner of the presidential election held recently and handed him a third consecutive term in office.
