Will Barack Obama be able to serve as Vice President?
Former President Barack Obama has been making headlines right after the time Joe Biden resigned as the Democratic Party candidate from the US Presidential Election race. Soon after, VP Kamala Harris assumed the role of the Democrat candidate, as Obama, already having served two terms as the President, would not have been Constitutionally able to take up the responsibility.

Will US Constitution allow Barack Obama to serve the office of the Vice President?

There have been massive rumors around Barack Obama assuming the roles and responsibilities of the Vice President of the United States, after Kamala Harris became the VP candidate for the Democrats in the upcoming elections. However, the 22nd Amendment has already stated that Barack Obama has crossed his Presidential term limit already, after having served in office from 2009 to 2017. However, some are of the opinion that this Amendment is only about the Presidential term limit and should nt restrict him from becoming the Vice President.

12th Amendment creates further complications

If there are loopholes around the 22nd Amendment, 12th Amendment has them somehow covered, as it clearly states that an individual constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall not be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States. This somehow makes Barack Obama VP race hit a roadblock but scholars are still debating around the ambiguity of these Amendments around the eligibility of the Vice President.

In case things are not adhered to suitably, it may lead to a potential Constitutional crisis, and set monumental precedents. Therefore, it is yet to be seen if Barack Obama is indeed considered for a VP role in the days ahead.
