November SSI checks up to $994 go out in 17 days: Here’s why the date shifted and how COLA affects it

November SSI checks arrive on Oct. 30: November’s Supplemental Security Income payment goes out Friday, Oct. 30. That’s 17 days from today. The maximum federal payment is $994 a month for an individual.

SSI is normally paid on the first of the month. Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday, so the payment moves up to the last business day before it.

Who will get the full $994 November SSI payment on October 30?

Not everyone gets $994. It’s the top federal rate. Other income can reduce what a person receives, and some states add their own supplement.

The rate itself reflects the 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) applied for 2026. That COLA reached roughly 75 million Americans.

COLA news arrives Oct. 14

The 2027 COLA will be announced tomorrow. It’s due at 8:30 a.m., the same time the September consumer price index is released.

The formula is simple. The Social Security Administration averages the CPI-W readings for July, August and September, then compares that average with the same quarter a year earlier. The change in that average is the COLA. That’s why the figure can’t be known until September’s inflation data comes out.

What forecasters expect

Forecasts have ranged from 3.2% to 3.6%. The Senior Citizens League’s latest estimate is 3.5%. All of these are projections. Nothing is official until the announcement.

For SSI, the math is easy to run. A 3.2% increase on $994 would put the individual rate near $1,026. At 3.6%, it would be near $1,030. Those are my own calculations. The agency’s final rounding could shift them by a dollar.

Will it show up in the November check?

No. The November payment uses the current rate. The 2027 COLA starts appearing in payments in January 2027.

SSI has a quirk here. Jan. 1, 2027 is a Friday and a federal holiday. Under the usual rule, the January payment would go out Thursday, Dec. 31. The same thing happened with the 2026 increase, which was paid on Dec. 31, 2025. The higher amount could land before the new year begins.

What to watch tomorrow

Three things matter. The headline percentage comes first, and the exact dollar change for SSI recipients follows once the agency publishes new rates. The third is how the final number compares with the 2.8% adjustment from last year. Early estimates pointed to the largest increase in three years.

A forecast isn’t a payment, though. Until Oct. 14, the only confirmed figure is $994, and the only confirmed date is Oct. 30.
