Why Tyson Fury could lose half his earnings, nearly £30 million after his rematch with Usyk today?

Tyson Fury is on the verge of losing a substantial portion of his earnings from the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Tyson Fury, the renowned Gypsy King, is on the brink of losing a significant portion of his earnings from his eagerly awaited rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.

Scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia, this fight is expected to net Fury an impressive £60 million, as mentioned in a report by Mirror USA.

However, should Usyk secure a second victory, Fury stands to lose nearly half of his prize money to the taxman.

Tax and National Insurance Deductions

Fury, 36, will face a steep financial blow if he returns to the UK following his bout with Usyk.

According to data analyst JeffBet, nearly 47% of his earnings will be deducted in taxes and national insurance.

The total deductions are estimated to be £28,352,584.69 in income tax and an additional £1,209,019.74 for national insurance contributions.

This heavy deduction is a result of the UK’s taxation laws, which require residents to pay tax on their overseas earnings.

JeffBet's spokesperson explained that regardless of how much an individual earns overseas, UK residents are still required to pay tax on those earnings, as mentioned in The Mirror report.

They further stated that Fury's team must have sought professional advice to mitigate the tax impact on his purse.

Massive Payout for Both Fighters

The total fight purse for the Usyk vs. Fury rematch is believed to be a staggering $150 million.

However, Usyk, having defeated Fury by a split decision in their first meeting in May 2024, is expected to take home the larger share of the purse.

This puts Fury in a position to not only lose significant earnings to taxes but also face a financial setback in terms of the purse split.

Fury’s Mental Focus Ahead of Rematch

Despite the looming financial concerns, Tyson Fury remains determined and focused on the upcoming rematch with Usyk.

In preparation for the bout, Fury revealed that he has not spoken to his wife, Paris, for the past three months in an effort to maintain the right mental state.

Fury’s unwavering dedication to his training has been evident as he aims to rectify his only professional loss.

In an interview discussing his approach to the rematch, Fury emphasized the importance of focus: "A little bit more focus if anything. More laser focus and not as much clowning around”, as quoted in a report by The Mirror.

He acknowledged the narrow margin of his first defeat, noting that the fight was decided by a single point. "If I take those two things to the game plan, then that would be a bit more successful," Fury stated.

Strategic Adjustments for Fury

Reflecting on the first bout, Fury contemplated adjustments to his strategy that could have led to a different outcome. "How about I took that 10-8 round away in round nine? It’s not a draw anymore, is it? Or a win by a point, it’s a clear win," Fury mused.

He has expressed that with "a little bit less fooling and a little bit more focus," he should emerge victorious in the rematch.
