Why Tim Cook's trusted executives are leaving Apple; HR Chief is the latest to leave

Chief People Officer of Apple, Carol Surface is all set to resign from her position after less than two years in the role. According to Benzinga, Carol Surface joined Apple back in 2023 and was responsible for overseeing human resources, inclusion, diversity, and recruitment for near about 160,000 employees of the company.

Benzinga reported that Carol Surface’s position was specifically curated for her in the company which reflected the importance of HR in Apple’s Corporate Structure.

Thus, her departure will create a new wave of executive changes at Apple while several other senior administrative position holders are also transitioning out of their roles.

Matt Fischer, who is the head of the App Store is leaving after a service of 21 years whereas Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri also has plans to step down during the end of the year but will continue to oversee certain specific functions.

On the other hand, Dan Riccio who is a long-time engineering executive known for his work on the Vision Pro Project is also retiring.

Deirdre O’Brien will be reassuming her previous responsibilities and will be overseeing both the HR part and the retail team management following the exit of Carol Surface noted Benzinga. Carol Surface’s brief tenure is pretty unusual in the case of a senior executive at Apple where longer tenures are actually more common.
