“Didn’t make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER,” Vergara wrote in a post, alongside photos of her swollen right eye and snapshots of herself receiving treatment in a hospital bed. “Sorry I had to cancel!”
Television host and former professional football player Terrence Alan Crews reacted with a heart emoji along with fire and wrote, “Oh no! Get well soon!”
Vergara had been slated to present the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, but actresses Malin Åkerman and Brittany Snow stepped in as her replacements. Together, they announced Stephen Graham as the winner for his role in Netflix’s Adolescence.
Although Vergara was not a nominee this year, she remains one of television’s most recognized stars. She rose to international fame playing Gloria Pritchett on Modern Family, a role that earned her multiple Emmy nominations. More recently, she was nominated for her performance in the Netflix drama Griselda. Despite the acclaim, she has yet to take home an Emmy statuette.
Modern Family itself made history, tying with Frasier for the most Best Comedy Series wins at the Emmys, with five each, according to the Television Academy.
