Why is Microsoft killing the iconic Control Panel?
The Control Panel is currently being deprecated. The Windows Control Panel will be replaced by a new Settings app.

The confirmation was found in a Windows System Configuration Tools support document. The document discusses the various ways users can personalize their graphical user interface experience, but it ends with a sombre note regarding the Control Panel that the Control Panel is in the process of being deprecated.
The Settings app, which debuted in Windows 8 lacked many of the features of its predecessor, has taken its place. With Windows 10, things got better, and with Windows 11, Microsoft kept adding features to the app. While the Control Panel still exists for compatibility reasons and to provide access to some settings that have not yet migrated, users are encouraged to use the Settings app whenever possible, according to Microsoft.

It is important to remember that while the direction of travel is evident, not all settings have been migrated. The outdated interface can be used to access many third-party configuration apps. Since Windows 1.0, the Control Panel has been a part of the operating system. It displays a list of applets that allow the user to modify settings for the operating system or other third-party applications. It's not like the new Settings app, but it's a more user-friendly tool than tinkering with configuration files or searching through the registry.
Although the Control Panel has served everyone well, in the world of Windows 11, it feels very much like a relic from a bygone era. This is evident in every setting that Microsoft has added to or removed from the Settings app, making the end of the previous interface inevitable. It is long overdue to receive confirmation that the control panel is going to be chopped. It's time to organise a migration for administrators who still use it to adjust the odd setting or two.
