The study was conducted by experts at the National Cancer Institute’s Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics. The report was published in JAMA Network Open. According to 'New York Post', the researchers compared new cancer cases among Gen X, baby boomers (born 1946-1964), and the Silent Generation (born 1928-1945). The researchers told the news outlet that they have looked at how many people out of 100,000 get cancer. They said that, based on their data, Gen X is getting cancer more often than baby boomers and the Silent Generation.

Other reasons for cancer among Gen X

The researchers said that even though smoking has gone down, other things that can cause cancer are increasing. They say that this is because more people are becoming obese and not exercising much. In their study of 3.8 million people with cancer, researchers found that Gen X women have fewer cases of lung and cervical cancers, but more cases of thyroid, kidney, rectal, endometrial, colon, pancreatic, and ovarian cancers, as well as non-Hodgkin lymphoma and leukemia.
For Gen X men, there are fewer cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and lung, liver, and gallbladder cancers, but more cases of thyroid, kidney, rectal, colon, and prostate cancers, and leukemia.
