At a time when US President Joe Biden is poised to contest the 2024 Presidental Election and faces criticism for backing Israel's wat at Gaza, a group of protesters disrupted Jill Biden's speech during the Human Rights Campaign's 2024 Los Angeles Dinner, reports 'Variety'. As soon as the first lady took the stage, a group of people who had made their way into the dinner began to chant "cease-fire now." One of the protestors held up what looked like a blanket or shawl with writing on it. Earlier in the night, protestors blocked the way leading to the hotel's entrance on Avenue of the Stars.

Protest outside Fairmont Century Hotel

Dozens of protesters also gathered outside of the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, the venue. Jill Biden made an appearance at a fundraiser at the home of Dr. Patricia Gordon in Hancock Park. The first lady told the crowd that the event had raised more than $1 million. Jill Biden
will also attend an event in LA before leaving, as part of the White House initiative on Women's Health Research.


Demonstrators staged a similar protest at HRC's New York City gala in February. Activists slammed HRC for its links to weapons manufacturer Northrop Grumman and called on the LGBTQ group to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

Oscars Awards delayed

Earlier this month, protestors also staged a demonstration at the Oscars and blocked the streets leading to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. They demanded a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. They succeeded in delaying the Oscar Award ceremony with the A-list crowd scrambling to get into their seats in time.

After Hamas extremists attacked Israel on October 7 and killed more than 1,200 citizens, including women and children, Israel attacked Gaza vowing to wipe out the militant organization. Since the beginning of the war, more than 30,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed.
