“Things were moving fast and she started to get a little uncomfortable with how fast it was going,” a source told the outlet despite their “undeniable chemistry.”
According to PageSix website, the insider added that although de Armas “put the brakes on,” she “still likes [Cruise] a lot” and that the pair “have a connection” and “will see how things go in the future.” The same source said the split was “Ana’s decision” and that both want to “remain friends,” but she “needed to take a step back.”
Cruise, 63, and de Armas, 37, were first publicly linked earlier this year after they were seen together in London and later photographed traveling together and attending events this spring and summer. Several accounts say the two initially bonded while working together in preparation for Deeper, including training for its reportedly demanding underwater sequences.
The source added, “It started as a deep professional respect and then it ignited. Tom was completely captivated by Ana.”
Cruise has been married three times to Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes.
As for de Armas, the Golden Globe nominee reportedly “enjoyed [Cruise’s] company” and found him “fun to be with” since he “supported her and everything she wanted to do.”
