Law enforcement officials identified the perpetrator of the attack on students and teachers at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday as Audrey Hale, a 28-year-old who is believed to have been a former student of the school. Nashville police said on Monday that “resentment” may have been a reason why Hale opened fire at her own former school and killed three children and three adults.

She had no previous criminal record but in the CCTV footage from the school, released by the police, the 28-year-old can be seen driving to the school in a silver Honda Fit and then shooting at two glass doors. She was armed with two assault-type guns along with a nine-millimetre pistol. Hale wore cargo pants, a vest and a baseball cap backwards. The Nashville school shooting victims were identified as nine-year-olds Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, and adults Cynthia Peak, 61; Katherine Koonce, 60; and Mike Hill, 61.

Who was Audrey Hale?

Cyrus Vatandoost, the President and CEO of Nossi College of Art & Design in Nashville informed ABC News that a former student named Hale graduated from the institution in 2022. Vatandoost expressed his condolences to the families affected by the recent tragedy and described Hale as a skilled artist and a dedicated student during her time at the school.

Although a Facebook post announcing an academic award received by Hale has since been deleted, it was confirmed that she enjoyed video games, movies, and sports, and had a passion for spending time with animals. Hale's LinkedIn profile also revealed that she previously worked for the grocery delivery company Shipt as a cat sitter.

The Covenant School, established in 2001, is a private Presbyterian institution in Nashville serving approximately 200 students from pre-K through sixth grade.
