Legendary actor Angela Lansbury has died. The veteran TV, film, and theatre star died days before her 97th birthday, her family has confirmed. The TV and stage favourite actor who played the role of Jessica Fletcher in Murder has some unsung connections to Wales as well.

The London-born actress was best known for her role in the hit American crime drama series that ran from 1984–1996 for 12 seasons, where she portrayed the character Fletcher, an amateur detective and mystery writer.

Granddaughter of George Lansbury:

As for her lesser-known link to Wales, she was the granddaughter of George Lansbury, the Labour Party leader between 1932 and 1935, on whose name the renowned Lansbury Park housing estate was named, which is situated in Caerphilly town.
