As per latest reports, Kay has made his way through the town of Derby and is moving through Duffield, Rowsley, Matlock, and Bakewell and on his way towards Hope. It’s reported that Kay is about to face the toughest part of his journey during the marathon as he will be making his way through the Kinder Scout moorland in the Peak District.
Kay has been providing live updates about his run via the BBC news channel and said that he was looking at the Ordnance Survey maps and when he found out about the elevated routes on his journey it “scared the bejesus out of” him.
Who is Vernon Kay?
Kay is an acclaimed television presenter, radio DJ and an erstwhile fashion model. He has presented famed shows like “All Star Family Fortunes,” “Splash!” to name a few. Kay was born, April 28, 1974 in Bolton, Manchester. He has a younger brother named Stephen Kay and is a teacher at a primary school.
Kay started working as a toilet cleaner in schools and during the same time he was picked up by a model scout for BBC’s Clothes Show Live and thus began his modelling career. He also won the title of “ Model of the Week” at Channel 4’s show “The Big Breakfast” after which he was offered the role of a presenter.
In 2000, he was the co-presenter of one season of the show “FBI – Fully Booked Interactive” and during the same year he also got the opportunity to be a full-time presenter for Channel 4’s acclaimed show, “T4.”
He joined BBC Radio 1 in 2004 where he hosted the weekend show which was later known as the Saturday show. He continued doing this till 2012 where he did not only host the show but also filled in for other show presenters when they were absent.
Apart from his stint as a television presenter he also played the part of himself in the comedy movie called “Keith Lemon: The Film.”
During his ultramarathon, Kay received a heartfelt message from his mother, Gladys Kay, where she said that Kay was doing “wonderfully,” while adding further that she loved him and is very proud of him as well.
