The US Senate has finally bought forward their confirmation for the post of Director of National Intelligence in the new Donald Trump administration, and it is none other than Tulsi Gabbard. As promised earlier by Trump that he wishes to see Gabbard in the coveted position of DNI, this was another successful Senate confirmation for the new US President after a tough Senate battle that saw some votes not going Gabbard's way.

Tulsi Gabbard secures Director of National Intelligence position after uphill Senate battle

Once Tulsi Gabbard assumes office, she will be the third female to hold the office of the Director of National Intelligence, if Lora Shiao who is the acting director is also considered in the list. In the official and elected capacity based on a Senate confirmation, Gabbard will be the second female Director of National Intelligence after Avril Haines to hold this coveted post. Avril Haines was nominated by former President Joe Biden on November 23, 2020 and soon after she received a confirmation from the Senate on January 20, 2021. After Donald Trump took over from Joe Biden as the new US President, she resigned from her post, and Lora Shiao, who is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, has been overseeing the roles and responsibilities in the capacity of acting director.

When Trump became the President-elect after wining the US Presidential elections 2024, he announced on November 13, 2024 that he intended to nominate Tulsi Gabbard for the position of the Director of National Intelligence for his second term at the White House, a wish that has finally been fulfilled by the Senate.
